CenturyLink: The Worst Internet Service in the Entire World
If you currently do or ever have had CenturyLink internet service (disservice?) you already know where this is going and can skip an addition to your rage by choosing a different article below. For those fortunate enough to have not been victimized by their complete lack of customer service, hold on for the ride. A couple years ago I subscribed to CenturyLink internet service due to a lack of other providers in my area. I purchased a plan online and they shipped me the necessary hardware to get my service going. Setup was a breeze and there were no issues activating my service. Skip forward a couple months and my service became extremely spotty. One minute I'd be streaming a video to my TV (via ethernet) and the next minute I'd be looking at a frozen pixelated image on my screen. I called CentruyLink's customer service and was instructed to restart the modem, so basically unplug it and plug it back in. I did, and it did remedy the issue for a few minutes. It was late and I was defeated. The next night the same issue came up. I called them again. Same thing, restart the modem. After about a week of this I finally was finally able to reach someone in their customer service team who was able to do more than regurgitate instructions for how to restart a modem. It turned out that CenturyLink had sent me the incorrect modem for the service I purchased. Great, at least now I had an actionable diagnosis. The customer service representative setup shipment of a new modem and I was a happy customer again. A day or two later I returned home from work to a CenturyLink package on my doorstep. Exciting, internet will be fixed! Then I opened the package to find the exact same modem I already had. I called them back to address the issue. They ended up sending me the exact same wrong modem THREE MORE TIMES! Finally, I went into a physical location to explain the situation and hopefully swap the modem in person to avoid a fourth shipping error. The representative at the store had the nerve to be condescending and tell me that the issue I was having was not the problem! I was left with no recourse but to accept horrible internet. Thankfully I'm now in an area that Comcast services. Comcast has been excellent.
